The big new one downtown
The team behind North Vancouver's Shipyards Christmas Market is setting up in Langley City this year. Langley Christmas Village runs Nov 26 to Dec 24 at 20340 Fraser Highway, with free entry and 70-plus BC vendors in timber chalets, according to the Village's website. Parfait Productions runs it with the City.
The surprise is the pop-up curling rink in the middle, booked by the hour for up to eight players with gear included. Expect Glühwein brewed in cauldrons and Dutch poffertjes, with a 36-foot tree overhead. A guided food tour costs $90 a person.
Hours are 11 am to 9 pm Sunday to Thursday and 11 am to 10 pm Friday and Saturday. The Village says it stays open until 10 pm every night from Dec 18 to 23 and closes at 8 pm on Christmas Eve. Parking is free after 5 pm on Douglas Crescent, and there's a shuttle from Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
The weekend fairs
Local Harmony Markets kicks things off with season 3 of the Langley Grand Christmas Market on Saturday, Nov 21, 10 am to 4 pm, at South Langley Church, 20098 22 Avenue, per Tourism Langley.
A week later, Riverside Calvary Chapel in Walnut Grove fills 25-plus tables with handmade goods from home-based businesses. It runs Saturday, Nov 28, 10 am to 4 pm, at Unit 8, 20178 96 Avenue, and admission is free. Kids get their own Young Entrepreneur's Market from 10 am to 2 pm, the church says.
On Sunday, Nov 29, Dead Frog Brewery holds its first Christmas Market from 11 am to 6 pm in its tasting room at 105-8860 201 Street, according to the brewery's event page.
Markets with a light show attached
Two of Langley's ticketed holiday shows have shopping inside. Merry & Bright at Martini Town has a heated Market Lane tent with 20 local vendors. Glow Langley has its Merry Maker's Market. You'll need an event ticket for both. Our holiday lights guide, coming Nov 4, has the details.
