Langley’s Clocks Stay Put This Sunday. BC Just Retired the Fall Time Change

Langley Insiders graphic: Your clocks stay put on Nov 1. BC is on Pacific time all year now

The short version

When: Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 2 am

What happens: Nothing. Clocks stay where they are.

New time zone: Pacific time (PCT), UTC-7, all year

Questions: Service BC, 1-800-663-7867

The extra hour isn't coming

Every November for decades, Langley got one bonus hour of sleep. Not this year. The province says the March 8 spring-forward was BC's last time change, and on Nov 1 the clocks simply stay put, according to its Pacific time page.

The new zone is called Pacific time, or PCT. It replaces PST and PDT and sits seven hours behind UTC, which is the same offset we've had all summer.

What changes for you

Mostly nothing, the province says. Your phone should be fine. Older clocks and car dashboards might still try to fall back on their own, so glance at them Sunday morning.

The real win is the light. Sunset in Langley on Nov 1 is 5:49 pm, according to timeanddate.com. Under the old rules it would have dropped to about 4:49 pm overnight. Mornings stay dark longer, though. Sunrise won't come until about 8 am in early November.

Why BC did it

The law to allow it passed in 2019, but BC held off to stay in step with its US neighbours. The province brought it into force this March anyway. It points to a 2019 survey where 93% of 223,000 people backed year-round daylight time.

So enjoy the brighter evenings on the trails. You'll still want a headlamp for the school run.
