A Family Tree Farm Since 1980

For a lot of Langley families, the holiday season doesn't really start until someone is kneeling in the mud with a saw. Oh Christmas Tree Farm, on Maxwell Crescent in Milner, has been part of that tradition for decades. The farm is family owned and operated and dates back to 1980, and it says every team member knows the trade and is happy to help.

Location is a big part of the appeal. The farm sits just off 216 Street from Highway 1 and bills itself as the closest Christmas tree farm to Vancouver. It is open seasonally and typically opens for the year in late November. The opening day is posted on the farm's website each fall.

Five Kinds of Fir on 17 Acres

The farm grows what it calls "craft Christmas trees" on 17 acres, and it credits good seed sources and a climate and soil well suited to premium trees. Five fir varieties grow in the rows: Nordmann, Grand, Douglas, Fraser, and Noble.

If you're not sure how a Nordmann differs from a Noble, ask. Reviewers say staff take the time to explain each type, and one visitor praised the "amazing selection in types and sizes of trees." Trees are priced by the foot and the rate depends on the variety, so ask at the lot. If cutting your own isn't in the cards this year, the farm also keeps a selection of pre-cut trees.

Bring the Family, and the Dog

You don't need to bring any gear. The farm provides complimentary saws, wagons, and twine for cutting your tree and tying it down for the drive home. Christmas music plays over the speakers, and reviewers mention plenty of parking and well-marked directions.

Dogs are welcome. "We are pet friendly and love having animals at the farm," the farm says, and reviewers mention staff handing out dog treats. Photographers can book professional sessions among the trees for a fee by contacting the farm first.

What Visitors Say

Oh Christmas Tree Farm holds a 4.5-star Google rating, and its reviews read like holiday cards. One family started cutting their tree here three years ago, and it "quickly became our family's favourite tradition." Another reviewer said owner Richard greeted them "the moment we drove into the lot" and that it felt like having "several acres to ourselves."

Even the facilities get compliments. One reviewer called it "the best outhouse, hands down," stocked with cinnamon pinecone potpourri. Others mention the tidy yard and the photo spots set up around the property.

The staff come up again and again. One family said everyone was "incredibly nice, warm, and genuinely hospitable" and took time to answer every question. Another reviewer said staff let their dogs off leash, and a third called the farm one of the best in Greater Vancouver. As one visitor put it, cutting your own tree with a wagon and saw is "the way to go to experience the Christmas festivities."
